The Wall of Ancient Amvrakia
The Wall of Ancient Amvrakia is definitely one of the most impressive sights in Arta. According to all the indications, the construction of the Wall begun around the 6th century B.C. and was concluded on 4th century B.C.
The excavations in the area where Ancient Amvrakia was situated, have revealed many dispersed parts of the wall, with the most impressive being the part that supports the Byzantine Castle of Komninoi. The biggest part of the Castle was built on top of the ancient stone wall, especially along the northeast side, on the riverside of Arathos.
The wall has a double thickness and is filled on the inside. The exterior walls are made with large grey rectangular stones that sometimes are more than 1,5m high.
